The Terms of Change
|
September always brings one of life’s major changes for young people – either their first time at school, or moving up to a new year, or indeed changing school or college. This change can be both challenging and daunting.
As national and European legislation is applied, understanding and applying the Bible’s role and presence in schools presents many complex challenges. How is the Bible taught in schools? What do teachers and students alike think of it? How do Christian teachers make a stand for biblical principles and values? How does its message get communicated alongside the texts of other faiths? These questions present immense challenges and difficulties but also immense opportunities to find creative and credible ways to make the Bible heard.
Let’s pray together for
For all Christians working in the realm of education
For Christian head teachers and teachers across our nation. May they be given God’s wisdom and creative ideas to still be able to promote biblical principles.
That any education legislation passed will take the role of the Bible seriously.
For all those pupils and students who are changing class or school. May the excitement of the challenge outweigh any sense of apprehension.
Come, my children, listen as I teach you to respect the LORD. (Psalm 34.11)
